about

On April 6th, 2005 a young 24 year old named Vivek Mahajan died. It forever changed mine and Rory's lives and future. He was our best friend, our band mate. We were both devastated. He was such a wonderful soul, and he was gone too soon.

I gave up on grad school and decided to just work on music. I wrote this song a couple years after he died. I've always meant to record it, but I never thought we could do him justice. Now that i'm moving and the band is over, it just felt like it was time. This is for you Vivek. We still miss you. See you soon. -JMK

lyrics

Well a man's not a man
Less he drinks from the sea
Where his grandfathers fought
In the old country
And maybe one day
I will go back home
Where my grandfathers fought
In those hills they roamed

But maybe you weren't
Made to be
And maybe in time
We'll understand our fears
But as I grow old
One thing is clear
My friend, I wish you were here

I wish you were here
I wish you were here instead of among the stars
I wish you were here instead of where you are... where you are

Well a man's not a man
Til his father says so
It's a fact of life
It's how things they go
But I'm not my father
And he's not me
So we'll sing along
In an off key harmony

But maybe you weren't
Ready for this earth
And maybe you'll get it
In your next rebirth
But as I grow old
One thing is clear
My friend, I wish you were here

I wish you were here
I wish you were here instead of among the stars
I wish you were here instead of where you are... where you are

(I wish you were here)
Yeah I still remember
The pact that we made
If one of us was to go
The other would take his place
It's been so many years
Since that fateful day
When we found you lying there
A needle stuck in your vein
I promise you my friend
I'm doing all that I can
And it's all because of you
I became the man that I am
I won't ever forget you, your spirt, or your love
So leave the sky cracked open
And I'll see you soon enough

I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here instead of among the stars
I wish you were here instead of where you are
